Two days in the past, within the days main as much as The Sport Awards 2022, I wrote about how the wildly inconsistent trend on the occasion was indicative of the trade\u2019s id disaster<\/span>. Issues rapidly acquired out of hand.<\/p>\n

The discourse machine revved up and started spinning at an impossibly quick fee: Nintendo president Doug Bowser tweeted at me<\/a><\/span>, Xbox president Phil Spencer replied to the thread and confirmed he is now aware of what Mike Mercante wears to go get bagels<\/a><\/span>, everybody was weighing in on the \u201cT-shirt with a blazer\u201d match, and the phrase \u201cdrip\u201d was discovered and subsequently overused by half the trade. <\/p>\n

Other publications wrote about the discourse<\/a><\/span>, builders weighed in, and the lead-up to The Sport Awards grew to become much less about hypothesis over which sport would win GOTY (spoilers: it was Elden Ring<\/em>) and extra about whether or not or not Josef Fares would put on a skin-tight t-shirt once more (spoilers: he didn\u2019t).<\/p>\n

In the end, it looks like my call-out labored. Quite a few individuals who attended the occasion advised me through DM that I shamed attendees into dressing higher. The presenters and on-stage expertise at this 12 months\u2019s Sport Awards have been virtually uniformly sharper-dressed than in earlier years, and even Phil Spencer appeared to be carrying a barely extra formal outfit.<\/p>\n

The Sport Awards is an opportunity to have enjoyable with trend and to lean into the themes which might be so typically within the video games the night time is celebrating, so it was nice to see some folks actually doing that final night time. That\u2019s why I made a decision to spotlight the best-dressed attendees and honorees at gaming\u2019s greatest night time. You all did wonderful, sweeties.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
